Lone Star Leads is an issue advocacy organization dedicated to policies that improve the lives of all Texas families.

Our focus is the work of the Texas Legislature and what it means at the kitchen table: the cost of a grocery run, the number on a property tax bill, and whether a repeat offender is back on the street.

Household costs

Affordability

  • We support policies that bring down the everyday cost of living for Texas families, starting with groceries, gas, utilities, and insurance.
  • We support keeping taxes low so hardworking families keep more of what they earn.
  • We support an economy that produces good-paying jobs across all of Texas, so families can thrive rather than just get by.
Taxation

Property tax relief

  • We support raising the homestead exemption and capping appraisal increases to protect homeowners and seniors from rising tax bills.
  • We support the long-term goal of eliminating the school property tax on a primary residence, which makes up roughly half of a typical homeowner's bill, and shifting more education funding to the state.
  • We support relief that reaches renters as well as homeowners, since property tax costs get passed on through rent increases.
Border and enforcement

Border security

  • We support cooperation between federal, state, and local law enforcement to remove dangerous criminals who are in the country illegally.
  • We support sustained state investment in border security, including technology, physical barriers, and the officers who patrol the line.
  • We support expanding the use of high-tech cameras and detection technology to secure the border.
Courts and bail

Public safety and bail

  • We support giving judges the authority to deny bail to defendants charged with murder, sexual assault, or human trafficking.
  • We support moving bail decisions for dangerous repeat offenders out of the hands of unelected magistrates and into the hands of accountable, elected judges.
  • We support holding repeat violent offenders without bond so they cannot return to the street and reoffend.
